While scrolling through Kickstarter’s endless bounty of new gadgets this week, iPaircaught my eye immediately. Sleek design? Yes. Bluetooth stereo sound? Yes. Water-resistant rating? Yes. Suction cups for sticking to the wall? I didn’t even know that was something I wanted, but yes.
Then I saw the price—less than $100 for a pair speakers—and I was hooked.
iPair’s big pitch is stereo sound, which is why the company ships its speakers two at a time. It’s also designed to make setup as simple as possible. Just pair one speaker to your phone (or tablet or computer) over Bluetooth. Then turn on the second speaker and it will connect automatically.
The company also included detachable suction cups so you can stick the speakers onto almost any surface. That includes walls, mirrors and windows. You can even take it into the shower since iPair is water-resistant. We wouldn’t put it directly in the path of your shower head or drop it in the sink, but a few splashes won’t do any damage.
iPair also features a built-in microphone so you can use it to make calls. That’s great if you need to answer the phone while driving or in any other situation where your hands are occupied. It also blocks out background noise automatically to focus on your voice.
Finally, I really like iPair’s design. It’s small enough to throw in a bag, but big enough to look substantial. You can also choose between a sleek white Apple-inspired design or a red and black version.
iPair is available to pre-order on Kickstarter for $89. The company is also offering extra savings when you buy in bulk. Four speakers cost $169, while $699 gets you 20 of them. Like with any crowd-funding project delays (or worse) are possible, but the company says it has the experience and skill to get the job done.
